Overview

Research and Development Center conducts strategic research, development and demonstration programs in support of Saudi Aramco’s drive for innovation.  We are currently pursuing several technology development opportunities in strategic and downstream research and development areas.
We wish to appoint a high caliber individual to our carbon management and sustainability programs.  This newly created position will have specific responsibilities in scaling up technologies for CO2 capture from air and point sources to pilot demonstration and pre-commercial scales.  Specifically key responsibilities are:
Conduct techno-economic studies for CO2 capture processes.
Engage in process design and process modeling activities of new technologies related to CO2 capture.
Engage in activities related to technologies scale-up, piloting and demonstration.
Liaise with peers in the company and various proponents to integrate new technologies in Saudi Aramco initiatives and ecosystem.
Train young Saudi engineers, while keeping abreast with the engineering and scientific developments of CO2 capture technologies.
 

Key Responsibilities

Conduct pre-feasibility and full feasibility studies for various CO2 capture processes.
Engage in process design and process modeling activities of new technologies, especially solid sorbent-based systems.
Review engineering drawings and engage with selected licensors for pilot demonstration scale.
Oversee the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Management (EPCM) of future pilot and demonstration projects.
Provide hands-on assistance with the commissioning, operation and maintenance of pilot demonstration and pre-commercial CO2 capture units.
Liaise with peer in the company and various proponents to ensure that CO2 Direct Air Capture technology can be integrated into various Saudi Aramco initiatives as part of downstream and strategic R&D activities.
Train young Saudi engineers, while keeping abreast with the engineering and scientific developments of CO2 capture technologies.
Assist with project management requirements of the Carbon Management Division.
 

Minimum Requirements

PhD in Mechanical, Chemical or relevant Engineering.
More than 10 years working experience, preferably in a design or operational role in the oil & gas industry, OEMs, industrial gases companies or Engineering companies.
Conversant with various CO2 capture technologies with focus on adsorption systems, and emerging concepts relevant to CO2 capture from air.
Conversant with thermodynamics and heat and mass transfer management.
Familiar with various design codes & standards for CO2 capture technologies.
More than 5 years direct experience dealing with small to medium size Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Management (EPCM) projects.
Several years’ experience working with Process Flow Diagram (PFD) and Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development, and HAZOP studies.
Strong project management and process documentation experience.
Prior involvement with CO2 capture technology development from concept to large scale implementation will be highly regarded, as will experience with front end engineering development (FEED).
Experience with software such as Matlab, PRO/II, HYSYS/Aspen plus, and SolidWorks would be a distinct advantage.
The successful candidate must be motivated, independent and hard-working with a strong research/technical background in areas relevant to CO2 capture material development.
Excellent command of oral and written English with capabilities to write and present technical papers.
Ability to work in diverse and cross-functional teams and flexibility to work in different locations in addition to the ability to work in diverse teams to achieve common objectives with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
