We are seeking to hire a computational geophysicist to join the Geophysical Imaging Department that aims to provide a diverse set of geophysical solutions which illuminate the subsurface to reduce the uncertainty surrounding hydrocarbon & non-hydrocarbon activities through integrating the best talent, optimal processes and leading-edge technologies. The candidate will formulate and develop algorithms in CPU and GPU for various geophysical disciplines in collaboration with the subject matter experts. The codes are expected to be put into a production environment and used as part of the main workflow to improve the quality and efficiency of the department products. The geophysical products include but are not limited to velocity model building and depth imaging: therefore, basic knowledge in each discipline is preferable. In addition, the computational geophysicist will provide periodic updates through presentations, reports and demonstrations and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop applications that improve the accuracy of our current geophysical modelling and inversion algorithms.
  • Adapting scientific applications to GPU.
  • Improve geophysical technology software documentation and user friendliness.
  • Support existing technology in production environment.
  • Restructure software code for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Stay up to date with industry technology and software trends to bring ideas to geophysical solutions.
  • Prepare and present professional-quality presentation materials to technical peers and management.
  • Transfer knowledge to young professionals to ensure business continuity through mentorship and documentation.

Minimum Requirements

  • A successful candidate, would need to hold a bachelor or higher degree in Geoscience.
  • 10+ years of experience in geophysical field and/or oil and gas industry.
  • Advance depth imaging (FWI, RTM, LSRTM) and velocity model building experience.
  • Experience with numerical methods, parallel algorithms, MPI, and GPU programming.
  • Proficiency in computing programming language (Fortran, C++ and/or C).
  • English language fluency with the capability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing Excellent.
