Overview
We are seeking a Hydrogeologist to join the Ground Water Division of Geological Operations Department.
The Ground Water Division is responsible for providing [for providing effective and specialized hydrogeological solutions and operational support for Exploration and Development, Facilities and Communities, through aquifer characterization, monitoring and modeling while ensuring safety and environmental standards.
The Hydrologist primary role is to integrate geological, hydrogeological, geophysical, and hydrochemical data to characterize and evaluate aquifer systems on a local and/or regional scale. Support and perform groundwater resources assessment, hydrogeological conceptualization, groundwater contaminant characterization & assessment and groundwater management. Design and supervise water wells drilling, pumping testing, analysis and interpretation in the office and field]
Duties & Responsibilities
You will be required to perform the following:
- You will have to conduct desk based hydrogeological assessments. Perform data collection, collation and analysis.
- Assess and identify appropriate locations for new production wells.
- Design water well completions and supervise the drilling process in the field.
- Design and conduct pumping tests in the field, and analyze the data in the office.
- Provide advice on borehole maintenance and optimizing well yield.
- Assess water quality issues in production wells. Provide detailed hydrogeological investigations including technical reports and letters summarizing the findings, conclusions and make recommendations.
Minimum Requirements
As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Earth Sciences from a recognized and approved program. Master’s degree (or higher) in hydrogeology or related sciences is preferred.
You will have ten years’ experience in hydrogeology, including at least five years in water well design, completion, water well testing, analysis and interpretation.
- You will have a solid hydrogeological background on groundwater resources assessment, groundwater conceptualization, monitoring network design and management and hydrochemical characterization of aquifers.
- You must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of map contouring methods and map generation is a requirement.
- Understanding of groundwater modeling platforms and knowledge of numerical and analytical methods in aquifer modeling for flow, transport and density is preferred.
- Good understanding of the aquifer system flow and contaminant transport processes is desired.
- You will be able to demonstrate ability and willingness to mentor co-workers in applying hydrogeological principles to conduct hydrogeological studies and investigations.
- You will also have knowledge of current industry trends, practices and technologies in hydrogeology.
