We are seeking a Reservoir Geologist with expertise in characterizing and advancing unconventional appraisal programs to full field development projects to join the Eastern Unconventional Characterization Division (EUCD) within the UR Exploration & Characterization Department.

EUCD is responsible for exploring unconventional targets in the kingdom, including shale targets, tight clastic, and tight carbonate formations, as well as characterizing existing unconventional resources to validate their viability and de-risk their development program. Additionally, the department provides support to other entities within UR organization to address any subsurface challenges that may arise during various operational stages, ultimately facilitating informed decision-making and optimized resource development.

The Reservoir Geologist's primary role is to integrate and interpret geological data to inform reservoir characterization and development, and predict reservoir properties.

Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate you will be required to perform the following:

  • Integrate and interpret geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data to establish accurate reservoir properties and predict hydrocarbon volumes.
  • Conduct detailed geological studies integrating all available data to optimize well placement and reservoir development.
  • Use geological models and data to conduct and document reservoir characterization work-flows via generating cross sections from well logs, maps, cores, cross plots, histograms, summary tables, and written reports for different stratigraphic intervals to recommend optimal well placement.
  • Evaluate current practices and identify opportunities for innovative improvements using data science applications to predict reservoir quality.
  • Actively participate in the well planning process to optimize well locations using a variety of geological and geophysical data.
  • Monitoring and tracking wells, performing well evaluations during and post frac jobs, generating and/or updating maps for structural, stratigraphic, fluid limits in light of new drilling and flowback information.
  • Provide geological input into generation of appraisal and development plans for resource assessment and development optimization.
  • Work closely with drilling, production and reservoir engineering teams and champion operational activities from planning to execution.
  • Effectively communicate through presentations to technical peers and management teams to enhance in-house knowledge.
  • Provide support, recommendations and advise in the area of expertise.

  • 10 years or more of experience and active technical roles, with at least 5 years in shale unconventional plays, we will consider candidates with more or less experience, depending on the quality of their experience.
  • Experience in integrating and interpreting geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data to inform reservoir characterization and development.
  • Working knowledge in the integration of sedimentology, depositional environments, petrophysics, geophysics, geochemistry, geomechanics and well placement.
  • Experience working with the production and drilling teams on well performance and optimization.
  • Previous experience working with reservoir engineers and reserve auditors to determine reserve and resource estimations is preferred.
