Overview

We are seeking Risk & Resource Geoscientist to join our Unconventional Resources Exploration and Characterization Department (URECD).

URECD is responsible for identifying and evaluating Unconventional Resources across the Kingdom, leveraging integrated subsurface studies to challenge traditional perspectives and drive portfolio growth. We collaborate with asset teams to advance appraisal and field development plans, ensuring a comprehensive approach to exploring, characterizing, and developing these resources.

As a Risk & Resource Geoscientist, you will lead risk and resource evaluations across all subsurface assets. You will work closely with exploration, appraisal, and development teams; ensuring best approaches are applied for the integration of both geologic and engineering data for risk and resource estimates. and You will provide independent technical evaluations of wells, fields, and technical studies.

Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate you will be required to perform the following: 

  • Assess and evaluate petroleum systems and plays interpretation workflows and products.
  • Interrogate completed technical evaluations of wells and fields, and associated technical studies.
  • Evaluate seismic, log, and core data to characterize subsurface structures, facies, and fluid distributions.
  • Evaluate drilling, completions, production, and diagnostics data to understand reservoir performance.
  • Provide guidance to geoscientists to accurately define the subsurface using geological maps, cross-sections, and grids; that incorporate seismic, sedimentological, petrophysical, and geomechanically data, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals across all geoscience and engineering disciplines.
  • Review pre-drill and post-drill well/field evaluations.
  • Complete independent risk & resource assessments.
  • Compile and present technical reports summarizing key technical risks and challenges.
  • Mentor other geoscience professionals.

Minimum Requirements

  • As the successful candidate you will hold Bachelor's degree in Geosciences (Geology, Geophysics, or equivalent) from a recognized and approved program, an advanced degree is preferred.
  • 10-15 years of experience in the Exploration and Production (E&P) industry, including a depth of experience in multiple unconventional plays including both source rock, and tight sand/carbonate plays.
  • Experience in resource estimation and technical risk assessment, for portfolio evaluation.
  • Proficiency in two or more of the following subsurface disciplines; seismic interpretation, QI, structural geology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, petrophysics, geomodelling, geochemistry, basin modeling, and geomechanics.
  • Integrated work experience with reservoir engineering, drilling, completions, and production teams to; monitor drilling/stimulation operations, evaluate production & diagnostics testing, execute field development, and commercial evaluation.
  • Ability to work independently and make real-time decisions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software packages for seismic interpretation, geological modeling, data visualization and analytics, and resource assessment (Petrel, GeoX, etc.)
