Overview
We are seeking a Marine Safety Engineer to join Loss Prevention (LP) organization.
LP is responsible for providing both day-to-day in-field occupational and process safety support to oil and gas operations, as well as centralized technical support and consulting services. Through its field offices, LP provides safety services to facilities and operations located throughout the Kingdom.
Your primary role is to provide field and office safety support to Marine organizations involved in oil and gas activities, including marine transportation, offshore support, ports, terminals, offshore facilities, and marine construction and maintenance operations.
Key Responsibilities
As the successful candidate, you will be required to perform the following:
- Facilitate the implementation of the Company Safety Management System within Marine operations, including its objectives and expectations, development of associated safety processes, and participation in self-assessments.
- Provide safety support to marine and offshore oil & gas activities, including ports, terminals, offshore facilities, marine vessels, barges, and marine construction operations.
- Inspect and assess marine vessels, offshore support vessels, ports, jetties, terminals, and marine facilities to ensure compliance with company and industry safety standards.
- Identify, evaluate, recommend corrective actions, and follow up on critical marine safety risks and controls related to operational activities such as Marine navigation and mooring operations, Cargo transfer and bunkering, Lifting and crane operations, SIMOPS between marine and offshore/shore-based activities, Confined space entry, work at height, isolation/LOTO, and permit-to-work systems
- Participate in marine-related safety studies and activities using risk assessment and mitigation methodologies, including PHAs, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, JSAs, marine risk assessments, incident investigations, compliance reviews, and insurance surveys.
- Develop and/or review corporate safety standards, instructions, and procedures related to marine and offshore oil & gas operations, and formalize them into company-documented practices as required.
- Review designs of marine and offshore facilities (e.g., jetties, terminals, offshore platforms, marine support systems) to ensure compliance with company and industry safety standards.
- Assist in the development and review of Emergency Response Plans for credible marine and offshore scenarios, including oil spills, vessel collisions, fires, and loss of containment.
- Participate in emergency drills and exercises as an observer or advisor and provide feedback and recommendations.
- Respond to marine-related emergency situations and incidents, either during or after regular working hours, to provide technical safety assistance and advice.
Minimum Requirements
- You will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Marine, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related engineering discipline).
- You will have a minimum of 7 years of relevant oil and gas industry experience, with a strong track record of delivering results, including experience in areas such as Marine and offshore oil & gas operations, Ports, terminals, and jetty operations, Offshore construction and marine SIMOPS, Marine transportation and logistics, Marine risk assessments and safety inspections, Incident investigations and audits and Safety program development and emergency response planning
- You will have Strong knowledge of maritime statutory instruments such as Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS), International Safety Management (ISM) code, Standards Of Training Certification & Watchkeeping (STCW) and Maritime Labor Convention (MLC).
- You will have in depth understanding of industry best practices such as Code of Safe Working Practices (COSWP), Offshore vessel Inspection Database (OVID) and Offshore Vessel Management & Self-Assessment (OVMSA).
- You will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
