Overview
Engineering Services are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Communications Engineer to lead the development and implementation of our next-generation telecommunications systems and infrastructure, focusing on radio communications (particularly in the new area of 450MHz range), satellite, 5G, 6G, and next evolutions. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Instrumentations and Controls engineers, alongside operating sites, facility planning, and project management, to ensure the performance, reliability, and scalability of our industrial communications systems and infrastructure.
The Communications Engineer will provide professional advice and technical expertise to various teams, including designing, developing, installing, and troubleshooting communications systems. The candidate must be able to work with different disciplines and have excellent communication skills. The Engineer is expected to participate in company initiatives, including innovation programs, operational excellence, and knowledge sharing. Travel to different sites may be required, and the ability to work with others in a fast-paced environment is essential.
The Communications Engineer will serve as a technical expert and representative for the company in matters related to telecommunications and radio communications, providing expert technical recommendations to vendors, manufacturers, and design firms. The candidate should have a deep understanding of the latest advancements in 5G, 6G, satellite, and radio communications, as well as experience in designing and implementing robust and secure communications infrastructure
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support and expertise for the development, implementation, and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems and infrastructure, including radio communications, satellite communications, and 5G/6G technologies.
Originate and carry out engineering studies to determine optimal solutions to complex technical problems, increase revenue, reduce cost, and improve process safety.
Work with and/or lead task teams assigned to investigate incidents or solve specific technical problems, and undertake special assignments requiring extensive technical experience and discretion when dealing with outside organizations.
Develop and maintain company standards, material specifications, procedures, and best practices to enhance company profitability, safety, and productivity by applying and interpreting key industry codes and standards relevant to telecommunications.
Review and evaluate capabilities of vendors and contractors to determine their acceptability to perform major services to the company, and act as a company representative in technical dealings with vendors, manufacturers, and design firms.
Evaluate and introduce best practices and new technologies to enable the company to achieve Best in Class performance in the telecommunications industry.
Perform cost analyses and Value Engineering studies to recommend cost-effective solutions to technical issues.
Conduct seminars and technical exchange meetings to promote new technologies and best practices to personnel from other engineering organizations and facilities.
Publish papers for peer-reviewed journals and deliver presentations to international audiences at technical exchange meetings.
Deliver technical courses to young talent in the company through the Technical Services Professional Academy (TSPA).
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications, or Electronics and Communication), or a related field from an accredited university.
20 years of progressive experience in telecommunications, including at least 5 years focused on radio communications, satellite communications, and 5G technologies.
Must have knowledge of telecommunications systems, including network architecture, protocol, infrastructure design, and performance optimization. These include but not limited to: Experience in IoT/IIOT and its applications in telecommunications, experience in civil engineering and underground infrastructure, including the design and implementation of fiber-optic cables and other telecommunications infrastructure, experience in wireless communications, including Industrial wireless protocols (i.e., ISA100 and WirelessHART), strong understanding of telecommunications standards and regulations, including those related to 5G, 6G, satellite, and radio communications.
Must be recognized as a proven expert within the industry and professional societies and industrial organizations.
