Overview
We are seeking a Subsurface Data Management Specialist to join the Unconventional Resources Data Management & Digital Solutions Division (URDM&DSD) withing the Unconventional Resources (UR) organization.
URDM & DSD provides daily data support to all business departments and entities under the Unconventional Resources admin area, underpinning business continuity and operational activities crucial to the organization. The division currently offers a wide range of services, including data governance and compliance, data discovery, preparation, validation, and packaging, as well as managing and supporting data in corporate repositories. The division also oversees data quality management, synchronizes data from the corporate repository to application databases, handles legacy data cleanup and archiving, and facilitates the delivery and packaging of data to external partners.
Your primary role is to proactively manage and protect Unconventional Resources Subsurface (Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience) data in official repositories by following corporate guidelines and industry best practices to positively impact UR business performance and mitigate risks. You will also play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and accessibility of UR subsurface data, and will work closely with stakeholders to identify and address data-related issues and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
As the successful candidate, you will be required to perform the following:
- Provide technical leadership and expertise in data management to support UR Subsurface operations.
- Assess and implement technical data strategies that govern UR Subsurface data and establish clear guidelines to ensure data security, quality, and accessibility throughout its lifecycle.
- Perform close collaboration with other corporate stakeholders to gather user requirements and recommend data management solutions, participating in data modeling design, project scoping, and specifications, as well as testing and acceptance.
- Ensure that comprehensive metadata standards, business rules, and clear roles and responsibilities are consistently maintained and updated across all Unconventional Resources data domains.
- Develop and propose data-related policies, and oversee their implementation once approved, and identify and manage risks associated with sensitive information.
- Lead complex data management projects, provide central direction and oversight, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions, track progress, and generate performance reports.
- Provide guidance on data quality assurance and control, driving initiatives to enhance data integrity and usability.
- Identify areas for improvement in the current data management environment, develop and implement effective solutions, and create informative reports that include in-depth analysis and visualizations to support data-driven decision making.
- Proactively mentor and develop the skills of young professional team members, sharing knowledge and expertise to upskill them in Data Management best practices and processes, and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Minimum requirements
As the successful candidate you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT. An advanced degree is highly preferred.
- You will have 12-15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, including at least 10 years focused on upstream subsurface data management. Some experience in IT project management is highly preferred.
- You will have a good understanding of upstream data types and data management functions, and you must possess strong computer and database skills, including proficiency in SQL (Structured Query Language), and have extensive experience working with oil and gas applications and enterprise systems.
- You will be able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge in upstream domain data, including unconventional resources and the ability to develop and apply cross-disciplinary processes that support the implementation of data management best-practice.
- . You will also have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- A professional data management certification (such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) is highly desirable.
